    • Act of Spiritual Communion- A Prayer by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

(This prayer can be said any time of the day, and is especially appropriate in one is not able to receive Holy Communion at Mass).

      My Jesus,
I believe that You are present
      In the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
And I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
      Receive You sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
And unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separate from You.
      Amen

    Litany of Humility
    • Litany of Humility

O Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
      Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being loved,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being honored,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being praised,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the desire of being approved,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being despised,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected,
      Deliver me, O Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I go unnoticed,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

    The Memorare
    • The Memorare

      The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought they intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

    Morning Offering
    • Morning Offering

My God, I offer you my prayers,
works, joys and sufferings of this day
in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions of your Son’s Sacred Heart,
for the salvation of souls, reparation for sin,
      and the reunion of Christians.
      Amen.
    Prayer to the Holy Spirit
    • Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.

      Lord,
by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful.
      In the same Spirit
help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
      Amen.
    Prayer of St. Francis
    • Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
      where there is hatred, let me sow love;
      where there is injury, pardon;
      where there is doubt, faith;
      where there is despair, hope;
      where there is darkness, light;
      where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
      Amen.
    Prayer to St. Joseph
    • Prayer to St. Joseph, the Protector of the Church

Father, you entrusted our Savior to the care of St. Joseph.
By the help of his prayers may your Church continue to serve its Lord,
Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
      Amen.

    Ways to Pray
    • Ways to Pray

There are as many ways to pray as there are people! Some ancient, some modern, many approaches to prayer have been developed throughout Catholic history. Some of these include:

      • Formal prayer: Reciting “standardized prayers,” such as the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, the rosary, litanies, and the Mass.
      • Spontaneous prayer: Talking to God, Mary, or the saints as if you were having a conversation.
      • Reading and meditating on Scripture: Reading the Bible and reflecting on what you read, perhaps focusing on an image, character, or verse that touches your heart.
      • Journaling: Writing your prayers to God.
      • Eucharistic adoration: Spending time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in a church or chapel. You can recite formal prayers, say spontaneous prayer, read scripture or spiritual books, journal, or simply sit quietly with God.
    Why We Pray
    • Why We Pray

Even though it can be challenging, prayer is an essential part of the Christian life. Prayer is an opportunity to spend time with God..Prayers can be expressed vocally or mentally. Vocal prayer may be spoken or sung and mental prayer can be meditation,or contemplation. The basic forms of prayer are praise, petition, intercession and thanksgiving. It’s important to remember that prayer is similar to “talking.” When we pray, we talk to God, Mary, and the saints. Some common forms of prayer include:

      • Worship/Adoration, where we praise God for his love, goodness, kindness, justice, mercy, and other qualities. Worship is reserved for God alone (we honor Mary, but we do not worship her).
      • Contrition, where we ask God to forgive us of our sins.
      • Thanksgiving, where we thank God for the blessings we have experienced.
      • Petition, where we ask God for God’s help. We often pray to Mary and the saints to intercede on our behalf to God for these petitions
10 Positive Things that Happen When We Pray
    • 10 Positive Things That Happen When We Pray

      • We Receive:   “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and the one who knows, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8)
      • We Follow God’s Will: “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:7)
      • We Imitate Christ:  “But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and our Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6)
      • We Enter Into A Relationship with God:  “Prayer is a living relationship of the children of God with their Father who is good beyond measure, with His Son Jesus Christ and with the Holy Spirit.” (CCC 2565)
      • We Increase our Chances For Salvation: “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
      • We Obtain What God Wants to Give Us: “Give good things to those who ask Him.” (Matthew 7:11)
      • We Practice Humility: “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 14:11)
      • We Obtain Peace:  “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
      • We use Our Time Wisely:  “And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?” (Luke 12:25)
