Thanksgiving (Walking with the Saints Series Reflection)
November 25th
Thanksgiving...what a wonderful time to sit, reflect and be thankful. I have always looked forward to the Thanksgiving holiday. It is a way to bring everyone together, to share a meal, a laugh, a prayer and a memory.
At Thanksgiving, the turkey, stuffing and desserts translate into sustenance for the body; good, flavorful and filling. While the gathering creates within us joy and love that we take with us out into our lives, the Mass gives us nourishment for our hearts, minds and souls, through the Eucharist and prayer - preparing us for the journey.
Thanksgiving became a nationally recognized federal holiday in December of 1941. The Mass became a holy event the moment Jesus said, “Do this in remembrance of Me” at the Last Supper. Eucharist is the Greek word for thanksgiving. Mass is the Latin word for “Go, has been sent.”
As we celebrate with our families and friends this Thanksgiving, know that we are invited every week to celebrate with our family and friends through the celebration of the Mass, receiving the Eucharist, being called to receive Jesus for sustenance for our souls and then called to “Go” out and share God’s love and joy with all we meet.
Every week we are given the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving through the gift of the Mass and receiving the Eucharist. If you are able, come and celebrate with us, because “Nothing Compares to Being There.”
May your Thanksgiving this year be one that is blessed, nourishing, uplifting and filled with knowing God’s love, always with you, always present, always at work.
