Look for the Speckled Colors of Light... By Kellianne Miley, Director of Religious Education
On October 7th we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Originally this feast was called Our Lady of Victory to commemorate the Holy League Navy’s defeat over the Ottoman Navy through the power of praying the Rosary. The rosary has its roots in the 150 Psalms. People that could not read would pray 150 Hail Marys, this became linked to the three original sets of Mysteries; Joyful, Sorrowful and Mysterious. St, Pope John Paul II added the Luminous in 2002.
Sister Lucia, one of the children that Our Lady appeared to in Fatima, maintains that, besides celebrating the Mass, the rosary “Is the most pleasing prayer we can offer to God and one which is most advantageous to our own souls. If such were not the case, Our Lady would not have asked for it so insistently."
The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary reminds us that Mary loves us and wants us to be close to her Son. One of the most beautiful ways to grow closer to Jesus is through the Mass; to receive Jesus and pray with our Church family. Do something good for yourself, go to church, look for the speckled colors of light, pray and grow closer to Jesus.
