Be still and know - Be still and listen. Jesus Does Not Go Away After Mass… The Lord Jesus Christ is the center of our lives. We meet Jesus especially in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the reception of Holy Communion nourishes us, heals us and strengthens us. Mass on the Lord’s Day and daily Mass are unsurpassable ways to encounter Jesus. After Mass, Jesus does not go away. Eucharistic Adoration is the main way we prolong this encounter with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is when we pray in the Church or in Mary’s Chapel before the Holy Eucharist reserved in the tabernacle throughout the week, or in the monstrance place on the altar. Here at Saint Joseph’s, key times for Eucharistic Adoration, praying with Jesus in the Eucharist in the monstrance on the altar, take place during the day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Mary’s Chapel from after the 6:30 a.m. Mass through the day until 7 p.m. We are planning to continue these times throughout the summer months. Thank you to all those who come and spend time in prayer with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. If you don’t already take time with the Lord, consider doing so. Spend some time with Our Lord & Savior on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
In Sunday’s first reading God tells Elijah that Elisha is God’s choice to be the prophet: “You shall anoint Elisha, … as prophet to succeed you” (1 Kings 19:16). The prophet is anointed with oil for at least two reasons. First, oil was used in the ancient world by wrestlers to help...Click Headline to Read On.
This year we mark 75 years as a parish and celebrate our Diamond Anniversary. We were officially declared a parish of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on July 2, 1947, when our founding pastor, Fr. James A. Donnelly met with Dennis Joseph Cardinal Dougherty, who granted the people of ‘Green Ridge’, in Delaware County, permission to establish a new parish. Our founding pastor was Fr. James A. Donnelly. Fr. Donnelly stayed through the founding/building phases of our parish, as the cornerstone for the ‘Old Church’ was laid in 1949, and our rectory built in 1951, followed by the Original Church building. At that time, we saw the arrival of our second pastor - Click headline to read on...
Walking with the Saints - We celebrate Mary, Queen of Saints, in her Immaculate Conception. For generations, among many Christian Catholic people, this has been one of the most misunderstood feasts on the Church calendar. This Feast, this celebration, is that of Mary being born without the stain of original sin. It is not about the sinlessness of Jesus. God chose Mary to be the stainless vessel, worthy of bearing His Son, and He did it with her full acceptance and cooperation. Click headline to read on...
Walking with the Saints Reflection. Thanksgiving...what a wonderful time to sit, reflect and be thankful. I have always looked forward to the Thanksgiving holiday. It is a way to bring everyone together, to share a meal, a laugh, a prayer and a memory.
He grew up under not just one, but two totalitarian regimes. He was almost killed in a car accident when we was young. He lost his mother at the age of eight. He lost his older brother five years later. At twenty years of age he lost his father, prompting the then-young man to say, “At twenty, I have already lost all the people I loved.” Later in life, a trained assassin fired a direct shot at him from yards away and missed the major artery of his heart only by mere centimeters.
A cloistered nun over 400 years ago continues to teach many others how to relate and pray to God - St. Teresa of Avila. Her wisdom, however, is not just for cloistered nuns...
One Of God's Finest... As we continue our walk with the Saints, we are reminded that throughout salvation history, our good and loving God blesses us with special people in our midst to guide us along the way. Read Deacon Jack Betzal's reflection on St. Francis Of Assisi in honor of his Feast Day!
It is a quiet, sunny day as I sit in church. The stained glass windows speckle their parade of colors on the white wall. The colors are beautiful. I have a few moments to myself. I take out my rosary and pray...
